Yesterday we announced IBM Global Entrepreneur in 6 markets – US, India, France, Israel, UK and Ireland. Most of the team were in India for the announcement at our venture capital symposium however the press coverage was very diverse including a piece in the Turkish

This is something we have been thinking about for quite a long time. Smartcamp is one part of the program. Access to free software is another. Visibility as part of the IBM smarter planet agenda is another. Overall Global Entrepreneur is designed to bring the best of our company together with the passion and innovation of world class entrepreneurs.

To make our vision of a Smarter Planet a reality we need an army of entrepreneurs. To really harness the opportunity to reduce waste in our transportation, water, energy, and healthcare systems (as 4 examples) we need entrepreneurs. We need entrepreneurs who know their industries. We need entrepreneurs with the passion to explore new markets and find ‘first of a kind’ customers. We need entrepreneurs with the drive and ambition to make these global solutions

In return we can bring some unique opportunities. As the largest technology company in the world we have amazing salesforce in just about every location and industry you can think of. We also have great technical resources and skills in IBM research and across the corporation. Our job is find the right connections in ways that make sense for both sides. The following video provide a short overview along with some footage of Treemetrics and Green Diamond filmed while we were in Santa Clara earlier in the month.
