Just spent the last 2 days in Silicon Valley with the SmartCamp 09 finalists Treemetrics and Green Diamond. Started on Sunday with the opening of the ITLG innovation centre in downtown San Jose before heading to Sand Hill Road yesterday morning to for breakfast with some VCs including John Fisher (the F in DFJ) – Phil Wickham (www.kauffmanfellows.org) – Enterprise Ireland and some others.

The main event for us was the launch of our SmartCamp Silicon Valley which took place in TechMart Santa Clara. Claudia Fan Munce (Managing Director IBM Venture Capital Group) hosted the Irish Prime Minster Brian Cowen who talked about helping create bonds between entrepreneurs and multinationals in Ireland and the US. The full story here is here in more detail http://ow.ly/1luA9

What I enjoyed most what seeing Treemetrics, Green Diamond and Cloudsplit talk passionately about building there business and extending the operations internationally – they are great examples of entrepreneurs who will deliver solutions to some of the global challenges we face as individuals, businesses and societies. Be it, deforestation, waste management or how to leverage this massive resource we call cloud computing cost effectively – these individuals show how to build exciting global technology businesses out of Europe.

We finished the day at the ITLG awards dinner in Stanford with Governor Schwarzenegger – congratulations to Redmere on winning the overall award – a great result.

Stay tuned tomorrow St Patricks Day in Boston…..
